Syrian military held live-fire exercises on Tuesday aimed at deterring any attack on Syria by land or sea, state television said.In a show of military power, the air force and navy both held war games with live ammunition to test the readiness of the armed forces in case of a war.State television said, according to the operational training plan for 2011, the a live-fire demonstrations were conducted with the participation of the Air Force and Air Defence units, fighter bombers and fire support helicopters.The Syrian authorities have made it hard for anyone to know what is going on in their troubled country. They have barred most foreign journalists and imposed tight curbs on local ones. Syrian news agency SANA said the participants showed a high level of cooperation and coordination.It said the navy forces executed a tactical project in which navy and coastal rockets participated and they successfully hit the goals accurately.The United Nations has said more than 5,000 people have been killed in Syria since protests against President Bashar al-Assad erupted in March, inspired by a wave of uprisings across the Arab world.
