Royal couple destined to be happy: Bolivian witchdoctors

Summary Bolivian witchdoctors predict rosy future for Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The snowcapped mountains surrounding the poor Bolivian city of El Alto are considered to be gods by the indigenous Aymarans who live here.Camped in tents blanketed in purifying smoke, the Aymaran witch doctors - called Yatiri - make offerings to these gods and ask them to help predict the future. The gods are known as the Achachilas and recently they were invoked to tell the fortune of a royal marriage: that between Prince William and Kate Middleton which will take place in London on Friday. In preparation for the ceremony the Yatiri constructed a table - typically used in these kinds of ceremonies - loaded with gifts to the gods symbolizing the royal couple. Sweets, llama fat, liquor and colored paper are all given up for the sacrifice. When it is ready, the Yatiri toss coca leaves over the table and they ask it to tell the future. According to the coca, there will be a few spats and disagreements in store for Kate and William, just like any couple. To complete the ceremony the table is then carried to face the mountains, where it is burnt. Aymarans believe the fire consumes the offerings and takes them to the gods. This time the gods revealed another detail: the prince and future princess will have two children once married. The Yatiri believe the gods unveil these clues by controlling the direction and the color of the smoke billowing from the burning table. One more thing is clear from the smoke - they say - that Prince William and Kate will be loved throughout the world.
