Prime Minister Naoto Kan visited the tsunami-hit areas for the first time since the disaster. He met with the victims living in relief camps and inspected the damaged done by the natural disaster. Naoto Kan said that the government was in constant contact with the local authorities and was making every effort for the rehabilitation of the victims.A recent survey revealed that more than 28,000 people are feared dead and missing while millions of people, whose houses have been destroyed and swept away, are living in relief camps. The total damage by the earthquake and the tsunami is estimated to be more than US$ 300 billion.
