Summary Jail inmates in Bolivia have been demanding for better living conditions behind bars.

Inmates in four of Bolivias packed prisons continued demonstrations Wednesday as they demanded better living conditions behind bars saying the prisons are overcrowded and they do not have access to sufficient food.As many as 300 inmates were on their third day of a hunger strike with close to another 100 in different penitentiaries saying they will go on a hunger strike on midnight Wednesday. The United Nations human rights commission has deemed the conditions inmates live in as inhumane, but the government entities running the penitentiaries say they do not have sufficient funding to provide better conditions. Bolivian inmates are required to pay for their daily food allotment and are provided a small allowance by the state, but they say it is not enough and are demanding a raise. The local governments have asked the national government to step in saying they are strapped for cash and unable to alleviate the unrest in the extremely overcrowded prisons.
