Summary A dead whale was found washed up on the shore in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Virginia Aquariums Stranding Response Team was sent to secure the approximately 35 - 40 foot long whale to the shore, to prevent it from washing back into the ocean. The Aquarium will perform a necropsy, or animal autopsy, on the whale on Monday to determine the cause of death.The whale was a Sei whale, not a common type for the area. Officials say they do show up occasionally in these waters.
