Summary U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and General Mike Mullen said that a consensus to take action against Libya could not be reached at Security Council meeting. Member of NATO did not approve of military action against Libya therefore the final decision will be made by President Obama.
U.S. Chairman and Joint Chief of Staff while addressing a meeting at the pentagon regarding the situation in the Middle East, Mike Mullen said that President Gaddafi is fighting a war against his own people. He is not leaving the presidency despite international and national calls. U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that there are no signs of Iran’s involvement in the Middle East crises. He said that despite the tension in the region, relationship with Jordan and Saudi Arabia will not deteriorate.Robert Gates said that the United States is keeping a close eye on the situation in Yemen and is welcoming the change in the Middle East. Gates said that the US has sent two naval warships and hundreds of soldiers to the Mediterranean. He added that the change in the Middle East is a blow and a setback for Al-Qaeda.
