Poland: Death toll reaches 200 as deep freeze continues

Summary Severe frost has already killed 30 people in Poland in February alone, bringing the total death toll to above 200 since November 2010.

Parts of Polands Baltic coast totally froze over as temperatures dipped to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius overnight. People could be seen walking between the piers stilts and feeding swans on top of the normally choppy waters at the summer tourist destination of Sopot.Bins with glowing coal, provided by the city council have appeared in the streets of Warsaw for people to warm themselves up while waiting at bus stops in an effort to keep people warm.Transport networks have also been struck by the freeze. Near Torun, 200 kilometers north of Warsaw, railways buckled in the extreme conditions prompting emergency maintenance and delays.
