Summary Madagascar's ousted former President Marc Ravalomanana said on Saturday that the airline was blocking his return from exile on instruction from his country's government.
The 61-year-old Ravalomanana had planned to fly home on Saturday after 2 years away risking arrest and life imprisonment.They (airline) say they received this notice from the Civilian Aviation from Madagascar. The notice say I am a persona non grata and not getting into the airport. This is the letter saying so, Ravalomanana told journalists at Johannesburgs O.R Tambo airport.Madagascar had urged South African Airways to block the self-made millionaires departure for security reasons.Political analysts warned that Ravalomananas return may escalate tension and regional mediators the Southern African Development Community (SADC) raised concern that Ravalomananas decision to return to Madagascar was contrary to diplomatic efforts to break the impasse.
