Summary Thousands of state and local government workers in Wisconsin swamped the state capitol of Madison this week to protest Republican Governor Scott Walker's proposed legislation to strip bargaining rights and cut benefits for public employees, Dunya News reported.
The protests, which began on Monday, have grown in numbers every day this week, police said. Capitol police estimated 25,000 people, many carrying signs protesting the Republican plan, converged on the state capitol building on Thursday, including 5,000 packed inside.US state and local governments have been struggling to balance their budgets after the recession decimated their finances.
