Summary Thousands of workers marched in Bolivia on Friday as part of a 24-hour strike demanding salary hikes and protesting inflation in a demonstration that marks a drop in popular support for leftist President Evo Morales, Dunya News reported.

Bolivias most powerful union, the Union of Bolivian Workers, once allied with Morales, called for the strike that paralyzed many parts of Bolivia. Thousands marched down the hill from the poor La Paz suburb of El Alto towards the government house, exploding sticks of dynamite and writing graffiti against high gas prices. It is the fifth straight day of strikes in Bolivia, where the strikes have spread across the country. Public transport halted in some cities and union officials said the strike brought in workers from schools, textile factories, and health care.
