Summary Mali state television says that a new prime minister has been appointed into the interim government.
State TV announced Tuesday that Cheick Modibo Diarra will serve in the position.The announcement comes after soldiers arrested the head of one of Malis biggest political parties and hours after a former prime minister was detained by military personnel. The arrests deepen questions about who is in control of Mali, where the democratically elected president was ousted in a coup last month.The coup leaders handed power to an interim civilian leader but their role in the future transitional government has been unclear.
