Summary Delhi CM launched solar car made by students scheduled to compete at an upcoming event in Australia.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday launched a solar car made by students of Delhi Technical University (DTU) that is scheduled to participate in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. Dikshit congratulated students and faculty on the launch saying that the innovation was indeed a matter of pride while flagging off the car at her residence in New Delhi.“Already many small cars with smaller batteries, running on CNG, which is also a petrol derivative are being manufactured, eventually we will have to go into solar and batteries,” she said.DTU Solaris code-named ‘Avenir’ meaning the ‘future’ would be competing with solar cars from across the globe in the competition being held from October 16 to 23 this year. A student told media persons about the features of the eco friendly car and its benefits.The car’s top speed is 85 Kilometres Per Hour (kmph) whereas its average speed delivery is 65 kmph. Owing to its highly innovative design, the DTU Solaris would be participating in a 3,000 km solar car race from Darwin to Adelaide.
