Summary Japan overtakes China in the field of supercomputers as they unveil the world's smartest computer.

On Tuesday, Japan unveiled K the worlds fastest supercomputer and reclaimed its number one title from China. The supercomputer was recognized as the worlds fastest computer last week at the International Supercomputing Conference in Hamburg, Germany, where it beat last years fastest supercomputer, Chinas Tianhe-1A.Advance Institute of Computational Science head, Kimihiko Hirao said that ‘K’ was unlikely to be rivaled for a while as it has topped the top 500 supercomputers of the world. The second fastest computer is Chinas Tiahe-1A.‘K’ can undertake 8.162 quadrillion calculations per second compared to Tiahe-1A’ 2.566 quadrillion calculations per second. The supercomputer battle between Japan and China is a matter of pride for both nations.
