Summary The Soviet Unions first manned space capsule is set to be auctioned in New York. The auction house expects the Shuttle to sell for an estimated US$10 million.

Vostok 3KA-2 is the world’s first manned space capsule that carried a successful space mission. The capsule carried astronaut Yuri Gagarin who became the first man in space when he went on the mission into space on April 12, 1961 in Vostok 3KA-2. Before going ahead with a manned mission, a prototype of the space capsule was sent into space carrying a mannequin and a live dog as a test run. The capsule orbited the earth and successfully reentered the earth in about 2 hours. On 12th April, the 50th anniversary of the space capsule, Sothebys auction house in New York plans to sell the piece of history. An anonymous owner bought this ship about 15 years ago and now it is expected to fetch about US$10 million despite the instruments in the space capsule being removed.
