Summary Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore recorded big wins in their IPL matches.
The Mumbai Indians out played the defending champions Chennai Super Kings by an eight wicket victory while the Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed the Kolkata Knight Riders with a nine wicket win. The defending champions Chennai Super Kings won the toss and invited Mumbai Indians to bat first in the match played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The openers including Sachin Tendulakar were bowled out in the early overs as third man Ambati Rayudu brought some stability. Then Rohit Sharma scored a magnificent 87 runs to bring the total up to 164 at the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. The Chennai Super Kings made a flying start, as opener Michael Hussey scored 47 runs but as their middle order collapsed, the team could only score 154 runs despite Subramaniam Badrinath’s 72 runs in 48 balls. Harbhajan Singh was the danger man as he took five wickets. In the other match played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, The Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed the Kolkata Knight Riders by an eight wicket win. Chris Gayle was the man of the hour as he scored a royal century to ensure victory for the Royal Challengers. The Kolkata Knight Riders scored 171 runs in 20 overs at the loss of 5 wickets. The Royal Challengers comfortably chased the target in 18 overs at the loss of just one wicket. In the next match, Delhi Daredevils will take on the Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
