Summary Wapda beat Pakistan Army by 54-45 in final to retain National Women Basketball Championship title.

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Defending champion Wapda retained its title of the National Women Basketball Championship on Thursday here at the Hamidi Hall of Pakistan Sports Complex.

Wapda beat Pakistan Army by 54-45 in the final of the five-day championship. Both teams fought well in the final but Wapda maintained its supremacy.

Army tried to close the margin and it came down to only one-point lead by Wapda during the second quarter, where the score was 21 points by Wapda and 20 by Army. Wapda pushed back and won the match by scoring 54 points against 45 by Army.

For Wapda Mehru Khan with 24 points lead the score board followed by Madiha with 10 points. For Army Ayesha led by 21 points followed by Zobia with 12. Yaqoob Qadri (KHI), Tariq Nawaz (FSD) and Umer Mahmood (RWP) officiated the match.

Mehru Khan of Wapda was awarded the Malik M Akbar best Player Trophy. The third and fourth positions were bagged by teams of Lahore and Karachi, respectively.

Chairman Wapda Lt General (R) Muzammil Hussain, Director Pakistan Army Sports Brig Ghulam Jilani, Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) president Brig (R) Iftikhar Mansoor and PBF patron in chief Mian Iqbal Farid, Secretary General PBBF Khalid Bashir and Treasurer PBBF Din Muhammad were also present on the final. Trophies and medals were distributed among players and teams at the closing ceremony after the final.

The participating teams in the championship included Wapda, Pakistan Army, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad and Hazara.
