Summary Sri Lanka and India will compete to be crowned the World Champions at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Saturday’s final will start at 2pm Pakistan Standard Time. Ashish Nehra is likely to miss the match due to a finger injury.Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss insisted that Muttiah Muralitharan will play despite continued worries over his fitness.All-rounder Angelo Mathews has already been ruled out of the final because of a thigh injury and off-spinner Suraj Randiv has replaced him.The teams have met six times in World Cups, including twice the last time the tournament was held in the subcontinent in 1996. Sri Lanka won both their matches against India, in Delhi and Kolkata, quite convincingly. India, however, won by huge margins in the clashes in the 1999 and 2003 World Cups which were held in England and South Africa.The most recent World Cup meeting was in the group stage in 2007, when India lost and were dumped out of the tournament. The last four World Cup matches between the two teams have all been won by the team batting first.The teams have played two matches at Wankhede Stadium, claiming one victory apiece. Over all the Asian finalists have faced each other in 128 games and India have a better win record as the side registered 67 victories against 50 defeats, 11 matches yielded no result.
