Sergei Bubka, the 23-year-old world No.342, showed his potential against the world No. 14 Ivan Ljubicic. Bubka moved to the second round of the event when his opponent retired from the match after losing the first set by 1-6.In another first round match, Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych eased into the second round of the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over French Jeremy Chardy.
