Summary Angry consumers broke LESCO office in Kot Lakhpat over fuel price adjustment issue.
A number of consumers reached the LESCO office on Wednesday in order to have the fuel surcharge removed from their bill in line with a stay order by court. However, the LESCO official gave them a cold shoulder and tried to procrastinate the matter. This infuriated the consumers who resorted to staging a protest and breaking glass windows of the office. The LESCO staff left the office unattended while the protest was heating up.The consumers said that fuel price adjustment was pushing their bills up. However, the LESCO officials said that they did not have any clear orders from the government to remove fuel price adjustment from the bills. The consumers, on the other hand, insist that the LESCO officials were not doing the needful despite a clear order from court.Many LESCO offices had removed fuel price adjustment from the bills of consumers who had visited their office on hearing about stay from the court. Almost all such consumers were accommodated, without LESCO staff telling them that the fuel price adjustment amount would reappear on their next bills with an added penalty. A LESCO official said on condition of anonymity that the amount was temporarily struck off in order to avert possible backlash from the public.
