Summary Punjab has blocked funds of Lahore Citizens Liaison Committee.
The provincial government has also cancelling lease agreement for the committee’s head office.This semi-government institution, which used to provide shelter to citizens from police atrocities, has reached on the edge of decadence.Citizens Police Liaison Committee is working under the Police Order 2002. This body consists of traders, minorities, women, media, ex-employees of the Pak Army and the judiciary. These committees provided assistance in lodging 2,857 FIRs in different police stations despite irresolution on the part of police.The Punjab government has given approval of last grant Rs 3.5 million to renovate its building and meet other expenditures. At the same time, the Punjab government has conditioned the funds with audit.The director of the committee has said that how the audit of the amount is possible which has not been used.On the other hand, the Home Department has also cancelled rental agreement of the building of the committee’s head office.
