Summary LHC on Monday suspended conviction of 8 policemen in Sialkot lynching case.
The Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had found 10 policemen, including former DPO Waqar Chohan, guilty in the case. All the policemen involved in the incident were given three-year terms.A division bench of the LHC headed by the chief justice had earlier suspended the three-year sentence awarded to former District Police Officer (DPO) Sialkot Waqar Chohan.The appeals of the six policemen were accepted for hearing and their sentences were suspended by the LHC. The policemen will be released on bail after the submission of Rs 200, 000 surety bonds each.On August 15 last year, two brothers, Muneeb and Mughees were lynched and murdered in Sialkot. Footage of the lynching incident showed policemen standing on the sidelines, as a cheering mob mercilessly beat Mughees, 19, and Muneeb, 16, to death with iron rods.
