Summary At least five PPP MPAs in Punjab have been suspected of not casting their votes for Aslam Gill.

Pakistan People’s Party had allocated 48 votes for its candidate Aslam Gill for the Senate seat but he could receive only 42 votes while Babar Awan succeeded but he also got 47 out of 48 votes.Five PPP MPAs, including Raana Rizvi, Samina Naveed, Javed Alllauddin and Major (r) Abdul Rehman have been suspected of not casting their vote for Gill while Rana Babar did not return from Dubai to cast his vote despite the arrangement of special plane by the party.The MPAs suspected of betrayal are said to have differences with PPP leadership as Raana Rizvi is wife of Ibn-e-Rizvi who is secretary of Naheed Khan. Samina Naveed is sister of Abdul Qadir Shaheen who is also close ally of Naheed Khan.According to the report, Major Abdul Rehman and Javed Allauddin have developed rivalry with their MNAs while Nishat Daha has also been suspected of not casting vote for Babar Awan. According to sources, Nishat Daha had met Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.On the other side, these leaders have rejected the allegations. Naheed Khan’s secretary Ibn-e-Rizvi said that vote was party’s deposit and his wife casted her vote for Aslam Gill but some party leaders were expressing doubts to cover their own inefficiency.According to the party sources, a high level meeting of PPP will be held in Islamabad within next few days to discuss reasons behind the party defeat.
