Summary Chief justice iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that SC can stop institutions from misuse of powers.
While addressing officers of Pakistan Air Force in Islamabad, he said that judiciary is authorised to interpret the constitution, adding that independent judiciary is inevitable for rule of law in the society.He said that if state institutions misuse their powers, the Supreme Court has unique authority of judicial review. He said that the main function of judiciary is to keep the institutions within their jurisdiction.He made it clear that the greatest asset of judiciary is citizens’ confidence which can be availed by fulfilling demands of fair play and justice.He said that the masses always have regarded court as their guarantor of their rights. Maintaining balance of power among constitutions is also the responsibility of the judiciary.
