Summary State Minister Talal Chaudhry says the federal government is ready to provide additional funds to terrorism-hit areas of KP, which already receives an extra 1% NFC share.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – State Minister Talal Chaudhry has said the federal government is ready to provide additional funds to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for areas affected by terrorism, adding that the province already receives an additional one per cent share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.

Speaking during a Senate session, Talal Chaudhry said the additional amount allocated to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the NFC Award was separate from the allocations made to other provinces. He added that Rs8.5 billion had already been provided under this arrangement.

He said the audit of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) had been completed with the assistance of the provincial government. However, one meeting of the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) regarding the audit report was still pending.

Following the meeting, the report would be presented to the States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Committee, he added.

Talal Chaudhry said the SAFRON Committee itself had directed that no further funds be released. However, he reiterated that the federal government remained willing to provide additional financial assistance to meet the needs of areas affected by terrorism.
