Summary Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian exchanged Eidul Azha greetings and discussed regional peace efforts during a 30-minute telephone conversation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the occasion of Eidul Azha, with the two leaders exchanging greetings and conveying warm wishes during a discussion that also focused on regional developments and peace efforts.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the conversation lasted around 30 minutes and took place in a cordial atmosphere. Beyond Eid greetings, both sides discussed matters linked to regional stability and ongoing efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the wider region.
During the call, President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in supporting peace initiatives and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir , Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, for their contributions towards promoting regional peace and stability. He also acknowledged efforts by countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Türkiye for supporting diplomatic and peace-building initiatives.
PM Shehbaz, meanwhile, expressed solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people over the loss of lives during the present crisis. He conveyed Pakistan’s support during a difficult period and reiterated the country's commitment to peace and stability in the region.
The prime minister highlighted what he described as the exceptional and sustained efforts undertaken by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in promoting dialogue and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing tensions. He stated that efforts for lasting peace had continued through diplomatic engagement and coordination with regional partners.
During the exchange, Shehbaz Sharif also expressed hope that a peace agreement would soon move towards finalisation and take shape in a manner that reflected the dignity and aspirations of the Iranian people. He noted that greater stability could unlock economic opportunities for Iran and create wider benefits across the region.
Pakistan, he said, would continue to stand alongside Iran as a brotherly neighbouring country and remain committed to strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation.
The conversation also reflected the close engagement between Islamabad and Tehran at a time when regional diplomacy remains under focus. Both leaders agreed to maintain close contact in the coming period and continue consultations on matters of mutual interest, including peace, regional cooperation and shared concerns.
