Workers' hard work strengthens economy, says Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has paid tribute to the dignity of workers, stating that their hard work strengthens the economy and forms the backbone of national development.

In her special message on International Labour Day, she appreciated the services of workers across the world and particularly praised the struggle of working women who support their families financially.

The chief minister emphasized the need to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, access to healthcare facilities, and quality education for workers’ children. She said the Punjab government is committed to improving the living standards and ensuring prosperity for the labour class.

Maryam Nawaz stated that workers are considered close to Allah and deserve respect and dignity. She highlighted several welfare initiatives launched by the provincial government for labourers.

She said that more than 1.4 million workers have benefited from ration cards and a monthly subsidy of Rs3,000. She added that free medical treatment is being provided to thousands of workers daily through social security hospitals and dispensaries, while housing facilities are also being offered to make workers homeowners.

According to her, 750 flats have already been allocated to workers, while another 1,872 flats will be provided in the future. She also mentioned that a bachelor hostel for 700 workers is being developed at Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura.

She further said that vigilance centres and teleclinics for workers are also being established, while an Occupational Safety and Health Management Centre will soon be launched at Nawaz Sharif Social Security Teaching Hospital.

Maryam Nawaz added that marriage grants for workers have been increased from Rs400,000 to Rs600,000, and death grants have been raised from Rs800,000 to Rs1 million. She also announced the establishment of “Gosha-e-Mazdoor” in Lahore, providing a dedicated space for workers seeking rest and shelter.
