Summary In foreign funding case hearing, PTI lawyer cites ChatGPT on challan scrutiny issue, prompting response from prosecutor; court adjourns proceedings till May 11 after reserving verdict.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The hearing of the foreign funding case against PTI founder Imran Khan and others was adjourned on Thursday after the prosecution once again failed to submit the challan, while the defence drew attention in court proceedings by referring to ChatGPT during arguments.
According to court proceedings, the challan was not presented before the court. Officials informed the judge that scrutiny of the challan was still in progress and was being carried out by the registrar of the banking court.
During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer questioned the procedure and cited ChatGPT, stating that the AI tool suggested the registrar was not responsible for scrutinising the challan. He raised concerns over the legal basis of the process being followed.
The prosecution responded strongly, arguing that the defence appeared to be relying on artificial intelligence without understanding the legal framework. It maintained that in special courts, the registrar is responsible for scrutinising challans before their formal submission.

The prosecutor further remarked that reliance on ChatGPT could not replace established legal procedures or statutory requirements governing court operations.
The exchange drew attention inside the courtroom as the prosecution criticised the use of AI-based references in legal arguments. Meanwhile, the court was informed that the challan scrutiny process was still ongoing, which was the reason for its non-submission.
The court was also hearing pre-arrest bail applications of two accused persons in the case. After brief proceedings, the judge reserved the verdict and adjourned the hearing until May 11. The foreign funding case continues to face delays due to procedural matters and repeated issues in challan submission.
