ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Thursday held a crucial meeting ahead of the key US-Iran talks being held in Islamabad.
PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir expressed satisfaction over the decrease in regional tensions so far after the effective diplomatic role played by Pakistan.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who also serves as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, met Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House.
The meeting reviewed progress in Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace in the region.
Both PM Shehbaz and CDF Munir stressed that all parties must maintain peace and uphold the ceasefire.
They also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue facilitating a peaceful negotiated solution and to provide all possible support in this regard.

During the meeting, the restraint and patience shown by all sides were appreciated.
The prime minister praised the commitment of the parties involved in the process and expressed hope for the success of ongoing peace efforts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated his invitation to visiting delegations to come to Pakistan, assuring them of full cooperation and the highest level of hospitality.
The negotiations between United States and Iran are set to begin in Islamabad from April 10.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that the Iranian delegation will be led by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the US delegation will include Vice President JD Vance, advisor Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
On this occasion, authorities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have announced a two-day public holiday.
Participants in the negotiations are being accommodated in a five-star hotel located in the Red Zone. The district administration has expanded the Red Zone boundaries from Zero Point to Faisal Mosque.
The Red Zone includes key government buildings such as Parliament House, Aiwan-e-Sadr, Prime Minister House, and the Diplomatic Enclave, where foreign embassies are situated.
According to an Interior Ministry official, security control of the Red Zone will remain with the military, while Rangers and police personnel will also be deployed.
