Wapda against tariff hike, suggests solution of line losses

Summary Wapda refuses to increase power tariff suggesting government to tackle line losses and power theft.

Water & Power Development Authority while giving its recommendations to the government said power companies and plants with poor performance should be given on lease and industries should be prioritized with available electricity.Wapda also recommended that National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) should focus on performance of the power plants.In a statement Wapda also apprised the government that power generation by old thermal power plants has reduced to 6 billion units annually and these plants are consuming additional fuel worth Rs. 11 billion.On the other hand, national treasury is facing loss of Rs. 90 billion annually due to increasing power theft.
