Summary SC issues show cause notice to Babar Awan in contempt of court; warns license cancellation.

Surpeme Court has issued another show cause notice to Babar Awan seeking reply by January 9 over comments in which he belittled issuance of court’s contempt notices to him and other PPP colleagues.During hearing of Presidential reference into reopening of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto murder case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad asked Babar Awan if he would not respect the government institutions, then who would do.While reprimanding him, the Supreme Court asked Awan if he wishes to get his license cancelled by giving out such statements.Chief justice also noted sufficient on-record material which warranted ‘contemptuous’ remarks against the Supreme Court and ordered Secretary Information to submit relevant video clips and paper cuttings.Sureme Court has decided to hear the Bhutto reference later, terming the case of Babar Awan’s statement as more important.PPP leader and federation’s representative in ZAB case, Babar Awan on Wednesday mocked the issuing of contempt notices by the Supreme Court to him and other PPP leaders.
