Summary Pakistan is a privileged country with abundance in talent but we have misused our resources.
Former federal minister for Minorities Col SK Tressler said this while chairing a seminar ‘Role of Civil Society in 21st century’ organized by Department of Communication and Media studies at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with the Human Rights and Minorities Department to mark the International Human Rights Day in the university.The seminar started with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by the welcome address by Kasim Sharif, Lecturer, Department of Communication and Media Studies, who welcomed Col. S.K. Tressler and introduced him.Turning back the pages of history, he said that Pakistan was made to provide opportunities to the less privileged. Minorities have always tried to participate in the betterment and progress of the country.He said that due to provincial racism we have failed to collaborate and work as a nation, although it should be our strength. He furthermore added that if we follow the three golden principles of Quaid i.e. Unity, Faith and Discipline, nothing can hinder our progress. He said that tolerance is the need of the hour and we have to accept each other with all our cultural diversity. This would help in the development of a better society.Likewise, the new generation lacks a good brought up, and contentment. The curriculum should be designed in such a manner that it should help the students in understanding the religions and teaching a sense of harmony amongst them. 21st century has a lot of challenges and we must try to fight these challenges. He also pin-pointed the fact that we have laws, rules and regulations; but we have never tried to implement or follow them which has resulted in the chaos.He also added some of his personal examples that helped the students in getting inspired and to work for the betterment of the country.The seminar was attended by the worthy Vice Chancellor, Deans, Faculty members and students.The seminar ended with a question answer session in which the faculty members and the students participated actively and enthusiastically. The chairperson Department of Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Shamim Zaidi offered vote of thanks. Souvenir was presented to the worthy speaker at the end of the seminar by the Vice Chancellor.Col SK Tressler has been awarded Sitara-e Imtiaz for his valuable services for the country. He is also an active member of Nazriya-e Pakistan Council.
