NICL case: SC orders probe into anti-judiciary ads

Summary Justice Gulam Rabbani has been assigned responsibility to probe into ads against judiciary.

Charge sheet regarding contempt of the court has been issued in the name of the Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) while the court also has given relaxation to the FIA to deposit Rs 20 million till November 18.A three-member bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry conducted hearing of the NICL case. The Investigation Officer could not present the record of restoration of Moonis Elahi’s accounts in the court.The Director FIA Waqqar Haider said that he had submitted an application seeking restoration of accounts in the legal department.The Chief Justice said that court orders have been violated by restoring Moonis Elahi’s bank accounts, adding that everybody was addicted to violation of court’s orders. We would like to bring the NAB on board in this case, he added.While scolding the Director FIA, the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammand Chaudhry said, “You are committing misconduct; either deposit Rs 20 million till November 18 or go to jail.”Moonis Elahi’s counsel Babar Awan said that he would try to clear misunderstanding regarding this case in consultation with Zafar Qureshi, adding that Ch Shujaat wished to handle the issue out of court.The court ordered, “If the issue is settled, it should be informed to the court, we have no objection in this regard.”
