President writes back on appointment of NAB chief

Zardari thanked the Opposition leader for participating in consultation and said that the appointment of Fasish Bukhari as chairman NAB is in accordance with the constitution and law.According to presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar, President made it clear in the letter written to the Opposition leader that the name of Fasih Bukhari’s has been recommended in accordance with National Accountability Bureau Ordinance 1999.The Opposition leader passed no comment on this appointment.While rejecting three names put by the Opposition leader Ch Nisar Ali Khan, there is no justification of this suggestion.According to the section 6 of NAB Ordinance, the president is authorized to appoint the chairman NAB in consultation with government leader and the Opposition leader.According to the NAB Ordinance, any retired officer of Grade-22 can become the chairman of the institution.
