In a special interview with Dunya News in Lahore, PEPCO Managing Director Rasool Khan Mehsood said that political appointments in every regime were at the heart of leadshedding. Loadshedding, like other problems facing the country, couldn’t be got rid of without putting an end to undue political interference, he added.He said had the successive governments given a free hand to PEPCO officials, the Rs 300 billion circular debt could have been averted. He stressed purging PEPCO, the country’s vital department, of incompetent employees.Mehsood said the measures including two weekly holidays would save 800 MW. The Punjab government has the right to disagree, but PEPCO is bound to follow the federal government’s loadshedding schedule, he added.He said that out of the Rs 300 billion, the federal and provincial governments and departments owe Rs 155 billion. Sindh and KESC are the biggest defaulters of PEPCO, he added.
