Summary PML-N has rejected appointment of Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari as new NAB chief.

Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari has recently been appointed NAB chief as the seat has been vacant for quite some time owing to litigation in the Supreme Court.Sources said the PML-N has rejected his appointment because the part had not been consulted for the appointment to a high-profile slot.Opposition leader in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan had written a letter to the President, reportedly expressing reservations on Fasih’s appointment without consultation with the opposition.Ostensibly, the President appointed Fasih in compliance with the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s order, which had refused to grant more time to government for filling the vacant seat of Chairman NAB.The recommendation process for the appointment of the Chairman NAB was termed as unconstitutional and in defiance to the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict in Justice (Retd) Deeder Hussain Shah’s case by the legal and constitutional experts. As per constitution, the Prime Minister is to initiate the process of consultation for the appointment of the chairman NAB and after having ‘meaningful’ input from the Leader of Opposition he should forward it to the President for final notification.
