Summary Abbottabad commission has recommended treason case against Dr Shakeel Afridi.

Dr Shakeel Afridi had run a fake vaccination campaign in the area to gather intelligence about Osama bin Laden’s compound on the call of the American intelligence network.The Commission heard the accused doctor in detail and recommended a treason case against him for damaging the country and paving the way for American raids.The Abbottabad commission led by Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal allowed the widows and daughters of Osama bin Laden to leave the country as their statements have been recorded.According to a notification issued by the commission, the statements of bin Laden’s widows and daughters had been recorded and they were no longer required.The commission recommended that the compound of bin Laden be handed over the local authorities.The commission earlier interviewed DG ISI Gen Shuja Pasha and gathered details about the American raid. Bin Laden’s wives were earlier barred from leaving Pakistan because the commission wanted them to be present in the country till detailed questioning.The CIA organised a fake vaccination programme in the town where it believed Osama bin Laden was hiding in an elaborate attempt to obtain DNA from the bin Laden family.As part of extensive preparations for the raid that killed Bin Laden in May, CIA agents recruited the senior Pakistani doctor to organise the vaccine drive in Abbottabad, even starting the project in a poorer part of town to make it look more authentic, according to Pakistani and US officials and local residents.The doctor, Shakeel Afridi, has since been arrested by the Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) for co-operating with American intelligence agents. The US has been calling for the release of Dr Shakeel.
