Summary Former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan should take US message seriously.
Qureshi said this while addressing a press conference here Friday. He said that statements given by Admiral Mike Mullen, US defence secretary and US ambassador Cameron Munter are aimed at mounting pressure on Pakistan. He observed that Pakistan wanted good relations with US and did not want confrontation therefore, US should understand our resources. He held Prime Minister should take notice of these statements, take on board national political leadership and parliament, summon Defence Committee meeting and evolve a national policy. “We should take US message seriously and no mis-signal should go out of Pakistan”, Qureshi urged.“We are country of 180 million people and a nuclear power. If Pakistan stance on Raymond Davis issue was correct then as to why we were forced to kneel down”, he remarked. The US is facing difficulties in Afghanistan. Americans are asking question from its government that what was spent by their government in Afghanistan during the last 10 years had landed their country in economic crisis, he remarked. He said US was considering to conduct operation on the pattern of Abbottabad in Pakistan. It could yield dire consequences, he cautioned. There was a trust deficit between Pakistan and US and this had reached danger mark due to such statements, he underlined. He held killing of former Afghan President Burhanud Din Rabbani was not an ordinary incident as it would affect peace mission.“India is our neighbouring country and we want better relations with India. US should understand that Pakistan border coincides with Afghanistan and not that of India. Still 3 million Afghan refugees are present in Pakistan”, he said. US is ignoring our necessary requirements, he stated.
