Summary No proxy war is being fought through the Haqqani network against the US in Afghanistan, says FO.
During the weekly briefing, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Tehmina Janjua has brushed aside US allegations that the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) is using the Pakistan-based militant network for a proxy war.She stated that Pakistan had no links with the Haqqani network and was not fighting any war through the Haqqanis in Afghanistan, adding that Pakistan was also victim of terrorism and had pointed out the cross-border attacks from Afghanistan with the United States and other forums.Earlier, US officials claimed that there was mounting evidence that Pakistan’s chief intelligence agency ISI has been encouraging the Haqqani network to attack the US targets.Replying to a question about the presence of the Haqqani network in Pakistan, Janjua said the question was not within the parameters of the FO.Speaking about the Clinton and Khar meeting in New York, Janjua said that the foreign ministers expressed the desire to work together and discussed various aspects of the bilateral ties.
