Summary Renowned Qawwal Maqbool Ahmed Sabri passed away in South Africa on Wednesday.
He had a cardiac problem for the last two years, and was admitted to a hospital in Johannesburg for the last few days.His nephew Amjad Sabri said his uncle Maqbool was a heart patient and was receiving treatment in South Africa. He further stated that his uncle was like a father to him and the family was grief stricken when they heard the news.Maqbool Sabri leaves behind a wife and five children.He learnt music from his father and formed a Qawwali group at the age of 11 which came to be known as the Sabri Brothers. Their first recording was released in 1958 and they were the first exponents of Qawwali to the West.
