Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry has said that people are dying from dengue but corrupt officials of the Health Department are playing with their lives.A lawyer had filed a petition against the Punjab government’s failure to combat dengue fever and to provide free-of-charge, necessary medical treatment to dengue patients. The health secretary and the DCO appeared before the court in the case and the health secretary told the court that the total number of dengue patients was 5,019.Reprimanding the health secretary and the DCO, the court said why the authorities concerned were slow in recognising the magnitude of the threat and failed to stave off the outbreak. The court said that the corrupt official would not be allowed to take the matter casually. It appeared that embezzlement was made in the purchasing of anti-dengue fumigation, the chief justice added. The court summoned the detail reply on the next hearing and adjourned the proceedings until September 23.
