ANP, MQM make peace overtures; Altaf phones Zardari

Summary Altaf Hussain phoned President Zardari, while his partys ties with ANP are heading to normalcy.

Farhatullah Babar, Presidency spokesman, said MQMM chief Altaf Hussain phoned President Zardari and inquired after his health. The President thanked Altaf Hussain for the gesture.On the other hand, in a sign of progress in the MQM-ANP standoff, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkwha (KP) Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said Thursday that the time for rifts with MQM was over.Talking to reporters after a polio eradication drive, Hoti said it was time to work for the prosperity of the nation and peace in Karachi.Hoti added that spirit and passion was required to establish peace in Karachi and all stakeholders had to work together to achieve this goal.Reciprocating, the MQM’s Rabita Committee welcomed the statement made by Hoti and said the party would not attach any conditions to ending rifts with the ANP.In their telephonic talk, Altaf and Zardari reportedly exchanged views on further strengthening and improving relations between the PPP and the MQM.Altaf Hussain held out assurance to President Zardari that the MQM would not part ways with the PPP for stability of democratic order in the country and his party would continue cooperation with the ruling party on important national issues.
