LHC calls govt record for recovery of Sharifs assets

Summary LHC has called bank record while hearing the writ petition filed by the Sharifs.

The Lahore High Court ordered the National Bank, Prime Minister Secretariat to present related record.Two-member bench comprising Justice Ijazul Hasan and Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa conducted hearing of the writ filed by the Sharif family.The petitioner is of the view that the NAB had captured their assets including Hudaibia Paper Mills worth Rs150 million illegally while the family was in exile.The Supreme Court acquitted the petitioners in all the cases, quashing all allegations levelled against them. However, the record and the said amount have not been returned to the family as yet.The petitioner feared that their assets could be misused by the establishment.The petitioner’s counsel requested the court to order return of their assets. On the other hand, the NAB told to the court that the Sharif family had a deal with the government. The NAB said their assets captured under the deal were in possession of the federal government.The court also asked the NAB that under which law it confiscated their assets and record.The court asked if Nawaz and Shahbaz were in NAB custody, how the said amount was transferred to the account of the government.The court ordered the National Bank, Prime Minister Secretariat to present all record regarding the amount and assets of the Sharif family.The hearing was adjourned till September 24.
