Summary The US State Department lauded Pakistan for arresting senior al Qaeda leader Younis al Mauritania.
Briefing the media, Spokes Person for the State Department Victoria Nuland said that the al Qaeda leader was planning to target US cities.She declared the arrest an example of Pakistan-US cooperation.The state department spokesperson said that the bilateral cooperation was important for both Pakistan and the US.Earlier, the Pakistan Army captured Younis al Mauritania, a senior al Qaeda leader suspected of directing attacks against the US, Europe, and Australia, along with two associates during a raid in Quetta.The Pakistani Army had announced that al Mauritania and two other senior Al Qaeda operatives, Abdul Ghaffar Al Shami (Bachar Chama) and Messara Al Shami (Mujahid Amino) were captured in a joint raid carried out by the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI) and the Frontier Corps Balochistan. The arrests were conducted with technical assistance of United States Intelligence Agencies, the Pakistani militarys press release stated.
