Summary Karachi police launched a search operation in Chanaisar Goth, Mehmood Abad, but it met a failure.

The police rounded up at least 14 people, but had to free them as no arms could be found. The operation was carried out by Elite commandoes and reserve force. In a rather rare move, the police high-up admitted that the operation in the area failed as no culprit could be arrested or arms seized. On the other hand, Interior Minister Rehman Malik says 90 suspects of unrest in Karachi have been arrested thus far, while Sindh Home Minister Mansoor Wasan says the scope of the operation could be expanded as restoring peace is the government’s top priority. The Federal Cabinet on Wednesday fully endorsed the Sindh government’s decision to launch operation in nine areas of the city. During the operation launched in Lyari on day-1, residents started protesting. They staged a demonstration and burnt tyres to block a road.
