In occupied Kashmir, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and other liberation leaders, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmed Shah have felicitated the people and the government of Pakistan on the eve of their Independence Day.Leaders in their messages in Srinagar said that the Pakistani government and people had always supported the Kashmiris who were engaged in a just liberation struggle.They prayed for the progress and prosperity of the country and maintained that strong Pakistan was imperative for the success of Kashmir movement. JKLF-R leaders, Farooq Ahmed Dar and Javed Ahmed Mir in a joint statement also congratulated Pakistanis on their Independence Day.Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, addressing a gathering in Budgam strongly denounced the search and frisking operations and arrests of youth by the police and troops in the Kashmir Valley in the run up to the India’s Independence Day on Monday. He said that New Delhi was creating an atmosphere of fear and terror to demoralise the Kashmiri people.Senior APHC leader, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, in a media interview in Srinagar stressed for a comprehensive and result-oriented dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve their outstanding issues.On the other hand, forceful demonstrations, marked by complete shutdown, were held in Maisuma area of Srinagar against arrest of a youth. Indian police resorted to baton charge and teargas shelling to disperse the protesters.Meanwhile, the occupation authorities have deployed Indian police and troops in strength in Srinagar and all major towns in view of India’s Independence Day on Monday. The troops and police personnel are conducting surprise checking and subjecting the people to thorough frisking.
