Summary Electricity worth Rs 24.5 billion is being stolen every year, according to an official report.

According to the report, about 15,00,000 units are being stolen under garb of line losses, which causes a loss of Rs 65.71 to national exchequers. The report further reveals that line losses to distribution companies stands at 35 percent.The major theft of electricity is being made in the areas of Peshawar Electric Supply Company, while its line losses stand at 37 percent. The consumers of PESCO, LESCO and QESCO have not paid Rs 9.32 billion, Rs 2.72 billion and Rs 28.44 billion respectively during the last fiscal year. While consumers of Hyderabad and Sukkar Electric supply Company have to pay Rs 9.32 billion.The report disclosed that circular debt of the power sector is more than Rs 300 billion.
