Summary National Assembly gave consent for establishment of Parliamentary Committee on Quetta and Karachi.
Rehman Malik claimed that target-killing had come to an end in Karachi. While congesting the discussion, he forget to mention the name of Quetta. Later, it was reminded him by a secret message.He said that miscreants were using terror as a weapon, adding that Karachi would be deweaponised step by step. The violators would be imprisoned by seven years along with ATCHe said that criminals are sent on bail due to shortcoming of legal procedure, adding that the killers of Gen Mushtaq and assaulter on the GHQ are wandering openly.Interior Minister Rehman, who earlier spoke his heart on security situation in Balochistan and Karachi, was happy over the unanimity of views of the members on the committee.He requested to have an in-camera session of the House as he intended to reveal some startling facts about unrest in Balochistan, where foreign interference was evident.The Interior Minister said proscribed organisations and Taliban had formed a nexus in Balochistan.People belonging to Hazara, Punjab and Pushtun background are being targeted on ethnic and sectarian lines under a well-planned scheme, he added.MNA from ANP Bushra Gohar, though espoused the committee, however questioned why the Parliament’s Committee on National Security, which already exists, could not be asked for action in this respect.Malik expressed the hope that Parliamentary Committee of the all political parties on Karachi will help improve law and order situation in the mega city. Talking to media outside the Parliament, he said the interior minister will extend all kind of assistance to parliamentary committee in this regard.He urged all the political parties to join hands and assist the government to foil the nefarious designs of the elements who wanted to destabilize the country. Malik said consensus over the constituting of parliamentary committee on the Karachi and Quetta is a good omen.The parliament being a supreme forum and has the representation of whole country and can find out a solution to every issue through dialogue and negotiation.He said that improving law and order situation is the prime responsibility of provincial governments while federation is assisting and would give them policy guidelines.Due to the action taken by the government, he said target killing in Karachi has been controlled. However, there are some small groups involved in various crimes which will be brought to justice.“All arms licenses issued by the Ministry of Interior will stand cancel with effect from November 1, 2011, he said and advised the arms license holders to approach the nearest NADRA office for new license.He warned strict action including 7 to 14 years imprisonment against the holders of illegal weapons and fake licenses.He said NADRA will also extend assistance to provinces for issuing of computerize arm licenses.The Interior Minister said that a large scale campaign will be launched for recovery of illegal arms after September 30.Malik announced cash reward for giving information about illegal arms, adding Rs 20,000 will be given for providing information about illegal Kalashinkoves (AK-47) and Rs 50,000 for providing information leading to recovery of LMG or Rocket launcher.He assured that the name of informer will be kept secret. Fake mobile SIMs has been blocked and remaining will be blocked at the earliest.To a question the Minister said he undertake visit to all the provinces. “It is wrong to say that I am only visiting Karachi”.
