Summary Sleeping Rail officials have finally decided something - they'll buy 50 engines on lease.

A special meeting of the Railway Board was held under the chair of Federal Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, and was also participated by GM Railways Saeed Akhtar, Secretary Railways Javed Iqbal, Secretary Railways Board Shafiqullah Khan and other high-ranking officers.The Railways’ authorities briefed the meeting that the government would be financing the department to the tune of Rs 10 billion during the current year, and required 300 locomotives to be operative.It was also informed that tenders for purchase of 150 engines had been released, while another tender for purchase of 73 more engines would also be floated in due time. A high-level committee to look into the issue had also been formed.Railways has decided to start repairs of 100 railway engines with Rs 6 billion grant, while it was also informed that the department would require to induct at least 25-30 engines monthly in its network.It was also informed that a case pertaining to purchase of 75 locomotives from China was already being reviewed in Islamabad High Court, whose verdict was eagerly awaited.On the occasion, the Federal Railways Minister requested Railways authorities to request the Court to expedite its verdict.It was also informed on the occasion that branch line trains could/would be stopped in order to facilitate special Eid trains.
