Pakistan extradites Bali bomber to Indonesian

Summary Pakistan has handed alleged Bali bomber Umar Patek over to Indonesian authorities.

Patek, who is believed to have built the bombs for the 2002 Bali nightclub attacks which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, was captured on January 25 in Abbottabad.Indonesia sent a plane to pick up the 41-year-old Patek from a Pakistani air force base just outside the capital.The extradition was confirmed by senior Pakistani security and government officials.Earlier, Indonesian anti-terrorism chief Ansyaad Mbai said that Patek would be returned to Indonesia to stand trial.Indonesian officials say Patek has confessed to playing a role in the 2002 Bali bombings, but have nevertheless expressed concern over whether they will be able to ensure a conviction.
