Summary PML-N has decided to endorse idea of new provinces in Punjab on administrative rather ethnic basis.
The decision was taken at the party’s special committee meeting held in Islamabad on Monday. The meeting was chaired by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.The special committee, led by Raja Zafarul Haq, referred to the July 27 address by Nawaz Sharif in which he had said that provinces should be created on administrative grounds, and a constitutional package should be announced for creating new provinces. The party also demanded a commission to evolve consensus on the subject.The meeting underlined that more provinces should be created in the larger public interest and not for political point-scoring. The participants said the party sticks to the point that it is against creation of new provinces on ethnic and linguistic grounds, but concedes that it could be done on administrative grounds.The meeting underlined the need for the federal government to create a consensus on the issue and bring constitutional amendment to create new provinces. The participants dilated on the situation in Karachi and noted that the rulers used the blood of the innocent people to prolong their own rule, and didn’t even shy from dividing the province for vested interests. Nawaz Sharif as party head expressed solidarity with the people of Sindh and assured all-out support to the people of the province in dealing with the law and order situation.The special committee comprises Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Zulfiqar Khosa, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Mamnoon Hussain, Yaqoob Khan Nasir, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Salahuddin Tirmizi, Tehmina Daultana, Arshad Khan Leghari and Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal.
